Larus Technologies Awarded Two NSERC Engage Grants with the University of Ottawa

OTTAWA, ON, December 20, 2012 – Larus Technologies is pleased to announce that it has been awarded two Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) Engage grants to be conducted with the University of Ottawa.

The first is entitled “Automatic Risk Mining from Textual Search-and-Rescue Operator Reports” and is being conducted in collaboration with Professor Diana Inkpen from the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the University of Ottawa to develop methods for automatic information extraction from large amounts of textual reports, in order to allow the system to learn from them. The extracted knowledge will allow the system to incorporate a human-centric perception of risk into the existing framework.

The second is entitled “Track Correlation and Association using GMTI/AIS/ARPA” and is being conducted in collaboration with Professor Nathalie Japkowicz from the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the University of Ottawa to develop correlation and association algorithms for a new family of tracking devices, the Ground Moving Target Indicator (GMTI) technology, which is very promising, but relies on immense amounts of data. Because of this information bottleneck, traditional approaches are expected to fail and this project’s focus is to develop, implement and test novel track correlation and association algorithms that will ingest multi-source data within a single system.
